On Saturday, April 26, 2025, Brisbane’s CBD became a vibrant hub for the pro-life community as many gathered for Cherish Life’s annual March for Life. The event commenced at 2pm with speeches at Speakers’ Corner outside Parliament House, followed by a March through the city streets at 3pm. The rally aimed to shine a spotlight over Australia’s abortion laws and advocate for the protection of unborn children.
A Diverse and Passionate Crowd
The march attracted a diverse assembly of participants, including families, young adults, and seasoned advocates. There was also a significant turnout among the younger generation, which signals growth in the pro-life movement.
Influential Voices Take the Stage
The event featured a lineup of prominent speakers who energised the crowd with their messages:
Up first was Katie Lush, the Family First Party’s lead Senate candidate for Queensland during the election. Katie passionately called for Australians to defend unborn lives and rebuild a culture that values family. She condemned extreme abortion laws, advocated real choices for women, and urged voters to support unapologetically pro-life candidates committed to justice and compassion. Next to the podium was Dr. Melissa Lai. Dr. Lai is a senior neonatologist and president of Pro-Life Health Professionals Australia, she powerfully challenged the claim that abortion is healthcare. She exposed the harm abortion causes to women, babies, and medical staff, and urged voters and health professionals to reject the pro-abortion agenda and stand for life and real care. Then it was Monica Smit. Monica shared her deeply personal testimony of having two abortions, tracing the roots to childhood abuse and a loss of self-worth. Speaking with humility and honesty, she urged parents to proactively address abuse, promote self-respect in young women, and expose the horror of late-term abortion to awaken hearts and change minds. A Unified Message Ahead of the Federal Election
With the federal election scheduled for May 3, the March for Life served as a timely platform for attendees to voice their concerns and influence public discourse. Participants carried signs proclaiming messages like “Every Life Matters” and “Protect the Unborn,” aiming to send a clear signal to policymakers about the electorate’s stance on life issues.
Thank You to All Who Made It Possible
