Abortion Statistics

Queensland

(Last update December 2025)

Disclaimer

At present, there is no empirical method for calculating the total number of abortions in Queensland. Many abortion procedures are carried out by private providers (for example, MSI International), and these organisations are not required to make the number of procedures they perform publicly available. Furthermore, for abortions carried out within Queensland Health, the government does not provide readily accessible or detailed statistics comparable to those say published in the United Kingdom. As a result, collating comprehensive abortion statistics in Queensland is extremely difficult.

The information below represents the only data currently available, the sources are as follows:

  • “The Abortion Pill” statistics provided by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS)

  • “Perinatal Deaths” under the category ‘Termination of pregnancy, fetus and newborn’ provided by Queensland Health

  • Pro-Abortion statistics

Australian Medical/Chemical Termination Figures (“The Abortion Pill”)

Australia’s system for tracking medical or chemical abortions (unborn children aged less than 63 days/nine weeks) is made possible through its pharmaceutical reporting requirements. Every drug dispensed through the nation’s healthcare framework must be recorded under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).  The PBS code number for the abortion pill is 10211K.

The drug is provided exclusively by MS-Health, a subsidiary of MSI Australia (Australia’s largest abortion provider) and is called MS-2 Step.  Each pill costs $391.06 (to the Australian taxpayer) but is subsidised for the patient at a charge of $31.60. Statistics below:

In summary, from 2019 to 2024, the abortion pill has had a devastating impact on unborn life in Australia. During this five-year period, 212,029 unborn Australian children have been killed by the abortion pill, with Queensland accounting for 46.72% of these medical abortions.

Financially, this means that from 2019 to 2024, the abortion pill has cost Australian taxpayers $82,916,060 (212,029 × $391.06). In Queensland alone, the cost to taxpayers has reached $38,744,269 (99,075 × $391.06), representing 46.73% of the national total. This taxpayer money has been paid to MS Health, a company that forms part of the same global network as MSI Australia, the nation’s largest abortion provider.

Available Abortion Statistics From Queensland Health

Below are the latest figures available on Queensland Health website with regards to perinatal reporting. The term “perinatal’ refers to the time period between 20 completed weeks of gestation and ends at 28 completed days after birth. The term “neonatal” refers to a baby who is born alive but dies within 28 days of birth. Within these annual reports are recorded “perinatal deaths” and within this category is the subheading ‘Termination of pregnancy, fetus and newborn.’

Unfortunately, Queensland Health does not provide a breakdown of the exact procedures used for babies recorded as stillborn within the statistics. Therefore, the neonatal cases would in all probability been an induction of labour without feticide. We have included the figures only after the Termination of Pregnancy Act 2018 was passed which allows abortion up to birth.[ii]

Babies Born Alive After Abortion Statistics

(Queensland Health)

In November 2023, LNP MP for Oodgeroo, Dr. Mark Robinson asked a question on notice to the Minister of Health, Labor MP Shannon Fentiman regarding the exact number of babies born alive from 2018-2022 Queensland. Below is a copy of those statistics:

In total 207 babies were born alive after an abortion in Queensland. There is an evident steady rise in the numbers of babies killed by late term abortion and the number of babies surviving their abortion. This is consistent with the legalisation of abortion to birth for socio-economic reasons which implies that both mother and unborn child are well. Queensland Health does not require the  disclosure of  the reasons for late term abortions for statistical purposes.

MSI Australia Figures

MSI (formerly Maries Stopes) is Australia’s largest abortion provider. Thier report from November 2022 reveals the following:

“Each year, it is estimated that abortion care is accessed at least 100,000 times in Australia. Around 1 in 4 women will have an abortion. Recent reports put unplanned pregnancy rates at 40% of all pregnancies.”
